It is 2-0 and the Philadelphia Phillies look to be heading to their
first world championship in 28 years and the city's first in 25 years.
The Curse of Billy Penn was about to end. The city was electric in
anticipation.
Then Billy Penn decided to get another laugh. The weather cost the
Phillies the lead and their staff ace to inclement weather. Hamels
could only pitch 6 innings and lost his bid to become the first pitcher
to win 5 games in one post season. While Bud Selig had his head up in a
place where we will not mention on this site and should have never
allowed the top of the sixth inning to be played, one has to feel a pit
in their stomach after such an unusual occurance and a game being
suspended in the World Series.
Could this be the Curse of Billy Penn yet again? Or is he getting his last laugh on October 27, 2008? Or will that be a date that lives in infamy in Philadelphia like Black Friday? The superstitious
would say yes. Many Philadelphia sports fans would say it is the lot of
Philadelphia. Many others would say relax, you have a 3-1 lead and a
good chance to win this game. I have to say that I am very uneasy about
this and just want this series closed out. The removal of the Cole
Hamels factor, Evan Longoria and Carlos Pena beginning to find their
swings, and the fact that the game was tied are all momentum changes
that benefit the Tampa Bay Rays. Please someone slap me and tell me I
am crazy. I guess I have been a Philadelphia fan for too long.
As for the game it will be continues as early as tonight at 8:00pm
or may have to wait another day depending on the weather. What should
the Phillies do for pitching? In my opinion because it is a tie game, I
would send Brett Myers out there like it was a start and tell him to
have at it. It will feel like a start anyway and because the series
will probably be pushed back a day if it continues in Tampa (especially
if it can not be made up today) it gives the Phillies the added
assurance of being able to pitch Cole Hamels again if game 7 were to
become necessary.
